Importing Guns to Northern Ireland
- Everyone bringing a shotgun or/and a rifle into N Ireland needs a permit/firearms certificate to do so
- If you already possess a Northern Ireland Firearms Certificate (FAC) then you need do nothing
- If you do NOT possess a Northern Ireland FAC then follow the instructions below
1. Holders of full GB certificates and GB visitors permits
Your full GB shotgun and firearm certificates are now valid for travel to N Ireland!
GB VISITOR certificates/permits
These are NOT valid for travel to N Ireland – you must apply through option 2 or 3 below >>
2. Holders of other EU permits, who do not possess a ‘FULL’ GB permit [a visitors GB permit is NOT sufficient]

Download the following form and fill it in including all details but leave the signature to me as your sponsor.
Send it to me and enclose the following [you may scan these]:
- A full copy of your national firearms permit showing the details of the guns that you wish to bring.
- A full copy of your EU pass showing the particulars of the guns that you wish to bring.
- This must include all pages including page 6 and show the page stamped by each country visited, leaving room for our Police to stamp
- Please ensure that the copies above show clearly the validity dates
I will sign the form and forward it to the Police and it will be returned to you via me.
Please note that the police would like two months notice. THINK AHEAD!!
3. Those coming from outside the EU
[PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NOW A CHARGE OF £25 + POSTAGE FOR THIS]
Download the following form and fill it in including all details but leave the signature to me as your sponsor.
Send it to me and enclose the following:
- A full copy of your firearms permit, or
- In the case of your country or state not issuing permits, please provide a ‘hunting permit’ or a letter signed by an attorney or a Police Officer, saying that they know that you are a responsible person who possesses the gun for hunting
4. TRAVELLING WITH GUNS ON FLIGHTS AND FERRIES
- You should check with airlines and ferries as to their policy BEFORE BOOKING
- Carrier policies change from time to time and you can only be sure at time of booking.
- It is always easier to travel direct to Northern Ireland with firearms rather than through the Republic – Southern Ireland – due to additional permit requirements.
It is best if you do not travel with shotgun ammunition which we can supply.
You should bring your own rifle ammunition for obvious reasons
